So I made him a deal: Take my body. Leave my baby. And to my horrified surprise… he accepted. I always knew my ex was a crazy S. But hiring an assassin to murder me in my sleep? That's more than insane.

That's downright evil. But there's no stopping it now. And when the hitman kicks down my door, I know I'll do whatever it takes to protect my little angel. The only problem is, I have no bargaining chips. Except for one thing… My body. I can tell by the way the killer looks at me that he wants a taste. I've sworn off men since my ex abused me. Though mentally ill, Eddie is scheduled to be executed for the disturbing, brutal murders of his wife and unborn child. As Shelby travels home to Texas for the unnerving reunion, she steps back into memories of her past, recalling her five-decade-long relationship with Eddie in order to understand what led the beautiful but troubled boy who lived across the street to become a murderer.

As they grow increasingly close, a tragedy occurs one July fourth, an event that sets in motion a lifelong struggle against an Evil—with a capital "E"—that has corrupted their all-American neighborhood.

With only a few days left for Eddie to live, Shelby braces herself for a reunion that promises to shed light on the traumatic events that transpired on her street, changing everything Shelby thought she knew about the boy on Chicory Lane. From internationally acclaimed and New York Times best-selling author Raymond Benson comes a novel that is a ghost story with a distinctive noir sensibility mixed with David Lynchian surrealism.

The year is Five recent slayings in the building have been attributed to—the police believe—one killer. During the gala grand re-opening Halloween party, Cole Sackler himself is murdered by a masked man. But hold on! His goal is to discover the identity of his killer, as well as learn the ironic truth about his own family, his heritage, and himself! Karissa Glover is a movie producer who moves into a decrepit but functional old mansion in the West Adams Heights area of Los Angeles, where black celebrities of yesteryear—Hattie McDaniel, Louise Beavers, and others—once resided.

The former owner was a white actress, Blair Kendrick, who often starred as the "bad girl"—a femme fatale—in films noirof the s. As Karissa and her producing partner decide to develop a modern film noir about Blair Kendrick, malevolent forces from the past attempt to stop them—first with intimidation, and then with the thread of murder.

Is this because Karissa has learned that Blair was involved in a then-taboo interracial relationship with jazz musician Hank Marley? Seeping with mystery, intrigue, Hollywood history, and forbidden romance, Blues in the Dark is Raymond Benson at his most insightful and page-turning best.

It is in the fourth book of the Black Stiletto series. Judy, the Stiletto, meets Leo, a charismatic man who convinces her to move to Los Angeles when she is run out of New York by increasingly hazardous police heat. As a token of gratitude, 47 shyly accepts several bottles of painkillers. The client arranges for 47 to use an M40A3 sniper rifle, probably for purposes of the weapon to be traced to a patsy.

The American public quickly jump to the conclusion that Linder was ordered dead by incumbent president Mark Burdett , despite the fact that he attended Linder's funeral without incident. Charlie Wilkins announces he will run for president in her place, though ICA's client still delays ordering 47 to kill Wilkins. Wilkins makes a lengthy, cooperative phone call to Cromwell, revealing that they are indeed working together. Both of them also suspect Burdett. Before leaving Chicago for the Church of Will in Virginia, 47 visits Birdie to pick up C4 explosive and heart attack-inducing poison.

He is given a tour by Wilkins' personal assistant Helen McAdams , who quickly takes a liking to him. He opens up to her about his painkiller addiction, as does she about her former problems with heroin. After two weeks of working, 47 is first permitted into the restricted area around Wilkins' on-site mansion. Colonel Bruce Ashton , Wilkins' head of security, calls "Stan" to his office, confronts 47 on his identity and knocks him unconscious.

He confronts Chambers with a gun, another aide to Wilkins who used to date Helen and was passive-aggressive towards "Stan", extracts that Wilkins is flying with Helen and the Colonel to Cyprus for some reason, and kills him in a faked falling-down-the-stairs accident. Wilkins is found at the Cyprus Hilton, where he is meeting with members of OPEC, Russian mobsters and other powerful foreign bankers for campaign funds.

Others may have issues with the fact 47 acts out of character in several ways or the rather off-kilter villain. I still enjoyed the book and recommend it to fans of the franchise. Mar 19, Suspense Magazine added it. Travel to exotic places such as Nepal, Cyprus, and the Caribbean. Meet crime lords and negotiate shady deals with enigmatic contacts.

The bullets will fly and the bodies will fall as Agent 47 seeks to complete what he was made to do. In the middle of a mission, 47 finds his life in danger and his handler vanished. He survives and a year later, after another successful mission with an unexpected ending, tentatively rejoins his employer, the International Contract Agency.

He wants to know the truth about his former handler and the way to start is to accept an assignment. His targets: American Presidential candidates from a new political party connected to a popular and growing religious order. The more embedded 47 becomes, the more he questions the characters of the players involved.

Benson captures the characters and gives them personalities that kept me going. This is the type of action-packed book that will thrill and urges me to read another Reviewed by Stephen L. Jan 15, Ian Reay rated it it was amazing. I've read both this one and the previous Hitman novel.

Although I prefer the story of Enemy Within, this one by far has the better writing, characters, conflicts, and pacing.

I actually felt for the character of Helen in this book, and for The chapters where we see from 47's first-person perspective is genius. Rather than ending with a quiet whimper and no climax, this book has an extremely exciting climax with a vengeful and angry 47, an I've read both this one and the previous Hitman novel.

Rather than ending with a quiet whimper and no climax, this book has an extremely exciting climax with a vengeful and angry 47, and falling action. I also love that not only do we see from 47's perspective, but also experience his new-found emotions.

Awesome action! A well thought out and tangled plot! And a dark anti-hero you can root for! The tightly woven plot threads common of the Hitman series and the cold personality of 47 reflect perfectly from the franchise.

Benson did a spectacular job of putting together a great thriller with the titular contract killer, his love of his trusty Silverballers, getting the job done efficiently and seemingly more human perspective make for a top of the line suspense story.

I wish another book was out right now so I could gobble it up in days but that isn't the case. Oct 21, Jonathan Gentry rated it really liked it.

Hitman Damnation is the second book tie-in for the Hitman video game franchise. It is the prequel that takes place between Blood Money game 4 and Absolution game 5. Raymond Benson wrote the novel, and while the experience of reading it was enjoyable from a plot and writing standpoint there were some concerns I had with this one. One I do not think that Raymond Benson has played the games, due to him starting off with stealth and then having things get loud and crazy. Two, he gave 47 a girlfr Hitman Damnation is the second book tie-in for the Hitman video game franchise.

Two, he gave 47 a girlfriend which bugged me because 47 has always struck me as asexual and avoiding even a kiss on the cheek at most. Other than that this book was worth the time, and it did vamp me up for the game which I played a few weeks after reading this. May 31, Ashfaq Shimer rated it liked it. My rating would be 3. I've had this book on my shelf for about 10 years but finally decided to read it after having nothing else to read.

I am a fan of the games and have played all the games until Hitman Absolution. The good: 1. Ended up being better than expected. The plot was quite good and had some mystery elements to it. Chapters are short. Stayed true to the character right throughout. The bad: 1. Was really put off by the writin My rating would be 3. Was really put off by the writing style.

Quite predictable throughout, except for a few moments towards the end of the book. Wouldn't recommend the book if you haven't played the games. Oct 26, Vinny Hiemstra rated it it was amazing. Awesome book, great prequel to the main game, which is coming out on November 20th.

I'm curious how they're going to integrate this plot into the game. Jan 07, Karl rated it it was amazing Shelves: finished. I played Hitman Absolution before I read this story.
